Meet My Friends

Today is  In The Bay Area

Friends are a gift that God blesses each of us with. What we chose to do with that friendship is up to us. You can remain in a small circle and have a few friends, or you can plant friendly seeds and watch new friends sprout up all over the place. Here are just a few of the friends that God has blessed me with. I continue to thank God for these blessings

Gene Viale

Forty years ago, a seventeen year old boy stood at a microphone in a small, old studio in Newark, New Jersey. He was filled with excitement as he sang songs emanating from the light of the gospel deep within him.

Through the years, at times, that inner light seemed to dim as life’s experiences became almost too hard to bear. But God! In His faithfulness never allowed that light to be extinguished.

Zina Jordan

Zina lives in Federal Way, Washington, 20 miles south of Seattle. My first contact with her was over the internet when I asked her about building this web site for me. She graciously accepted and we are now the best of buds.
She is the Mother of 3 sons, and Grand Mother to 5.
Besides her website business, Zina is the Chapter Rep of the  Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, and Administrative Assistant of the National James Cleveland Gospel Chorus.
She's been a member of the Goodwill Baptist Church in Seattle all her life and now serves as church secretary.

Charles Brown

It seems like Charles Brown has been in my life forever. I've known him over 30 years. We met through a gospel organization called The American Singer's Association. The late Mae Campbell served as president of the Seattle Local #8 and Loretta Witt was the vice-president.
Back then this organization was like the national GMWA. Mae Campbell was like a chapter representative and Loretta Witt was her assistant. Charles Brown was a member of the choir,  George Gill was the musician, and Shirley Williams (Ruby McKenzie's daughter-from Goodwill Baptist Church in Seattle) were also members. As the years rolled by and the American Singer's Association started to slow down Charles started going to the Gospel Music Workshop of America national convention. This was around the late 60's early 70's. We stay in contact with each other and see each other at the GMWA conventions. Even though we don't talk as much as we did back in the old days, we've never forgotten each other. Every time  I go to Seattle I always contact Charles Brown - he'll always be my good long time friend.

Jeanie Tracy

Jeanie is a good friend of mine who lives in Oakland California,
We have known each about 16 years. During the late seventies Jeanie, together with the Two Tons O' Fun, backed the late, great Sylvester and since then, she's become one of the most sought-after session singers in the business. Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle has proclaimed her "one of the Top Ten voices in the world" and if you ask Chaka Khan, she probably agrees. Aretha, Chaka, Peabo Bryson, Jeffrey Osborne, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Sheena Easton, Tevin Campbell, Diana Ross, Curtis Mayfield, just to name a few, they've all benefited from her big voice. And yes, it was none other than Jeanie Tracy you heard wailing behind Whitney Houston on "I'm Every Woman". I met her through Martha Wash at a recording session party for "Sylvester".
From that day on we became the best of friends. She will be on my soon to be released gospel project.
Jeanie is a member of the Acts Full Gospel C.O.G.I.C., in Oakland.  She has been a real true friend and today we stay
in contact with each other everyday.
Martha Wash is a very good friend and has been for as long as I can remember. we went to high school together (which wasn't that long ago). We sang in the music class under Mr. Johnny Land with other wonderful singers and musicians from the Bay Area like Victor Willis (The Village People), Melvin Seals (The Jerry Garcia Band), Lawrence Rubin, Alan and Fred Ross, this is to just name the talent that we both were around everyday.

Martha began her singing career with Izora Rhodes-Armstead and Douglas Kibble as one of the N.O.W. Singers. She then went to The Two Tons of Fun with Sylvester, and then The Weathers Girls. To this day Martha and I have that unconditional friendship that no one can
break apart.

Martha is a faithful member of The Richardson Memorial Spiritual Temple in New York, and on the west coast a member of the City of Refuge United Church of Christ under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Yvette Flunder in San Francisco California.
