Darlene Moore Rev. Charlie Moore Charlene Moore
In November 1953, the Original Baptist Church was founded by Rev. W. M. Johnson. The following year Rev. Johnson resigned, and Rev. Charlie Moore was requested for the Pastorship.

Rev. Moore was ordained and installed as Pastor and the church was renamed the Calvary Hill Baptist Church. The official charter and founding date for the church is May 1, 1955.

The first church facility of Calvary Hill was the basement of 1514 McAllister Street, San Francisco. The church then moved to 1058 McAllister for a brief period, followed by 1546 Divisidero Street in San Francisco. The first property purchased by the church was 292 Broad Street in San Francisco in 1962. It was in 1967 that two of the members of the congregation assisted the church in purchasing its current property at 101 Vista Grande Avenue in Daly City.

In January of 1969, Rev. Moore resigned as Pastor. Later that year, he recommended that the church call Rev. Charlie Hamilton as Pastor. On April 17, 1969, Rev. Hamilton accepted the invitation and was voted in as Pastor. He established the "Articles of Incorporation", initiated the church participation in local, state, and national conventions, and active involvement in community affairs. Many auxiliaries were added during Rev. Hamilton's administration. A special interest and concern about the importance of Christian Education led to creation of workshops, institutes, and a Christian Bible School. The church established a certified education institute program accredited by the National Baptist Convention.

In 1983, the church began another building fund drive. In 1987, the decision was made to fully renovate the current facility. Groundbreaking services were held in 1988, and the newly renovated building was dedicated in March on 1989.

Rev. Hamilton gave fervent and faithful leadership form 1969 unti8l his health began to fail in 1994. At that time, he appointed his Assistant pastor, Rev. Joseph Bryant, Jr., congregational leader while he was ill. rev. Hamilton passed away in June of 1995 after 26 years of dedicated service. The church unanimously called Rev. Bryant to serve as Pastor, and he was installed in January of 1996.
